Where to Plant Potatoes

"Hi! This is Doug Smiddy of Smiddy's Gardening Services here on behalf of expertvillage.com. Today we are going to talk about how to plant, grow and harvest potatoes. Okay now that we've chosen the varieties of potatoes we like to grow, the next step is to pick a location. As with most plants, you want to pick a good sunny location and the soil, well the soil doesn't have to be perfect for potatoes. They will pretty much grow in any kind of environment. As long it is not very very stony or clay, bear in mind that potatoes are an underground crop so they need a little bit of breathing room. As you can see, this soil here is pretty viable; nice and easy to work with. Again, the potatoes are going to grow out through the soil just like that and take up the space. So they need a little breathing room; that's all they need. Again, I think you want to pick a location that is going to pick a location that is going to get at least 6 hours of sun. More than that is fine but at least 6 hours is good and in a minute we are going to talk about preparing the site once you choose it. "
