"WILLIE: Hi, my name is Willie. I'm from Carson Saw Shop here in Eugene, Oregon and I've been sharpening tools here for 25, 30 years and I'm here with Expert Village today. This is a ship auger. This is what a lot of plumbers and electricians use to plumb and put electrical stuff in the house, so I'm going to show you how to sharpen it. I gotta cut the surface top on this thing so it spirals into the cutting edge being the lead edge. So I'm going to go ahead and turn this on. This is the same wheel that I was using. I hold the pinion with my two fingers like that to get control up close. Then, I look at it to see if I got a single edge that comes on up and that looks pretty good. I got the top edge. Now, I have to do the screw part because it looks like it's a little bit dull. We'll walk over here to this other machine, and now cut the spiral part here. And then to finish it off, we'll put it over here in the vise and use a triangular file to finish it up. This looks like it will fit in there. It's got an outer tang and I want to cut that clean. That's what cuts the outside sides. Once I get that kind of cleaned up, then, I should go back here and hit the front surface face. And you see, there's some lines in there that need to be cleaned off with one shiny cut all the way across. Now that one looks completed, so it's got the feed screw sharp, and then sharpened on the top and the inside now."
