FRED CARSON: Hi. My name is Fred Carson. I'm from Carson's Saw Shop in Eugene, Oregon. I've been sharpening tools for over thirty years and I'm here with Expert Village. This is a carbide-tip saw blade. It has that little carbide tips that have been silver-soldered on each saw tooth. Each tooth has to be--when you take about 10,000 soft on the tops on each tooth, it's a good idea to have a safety-a little mask here 'cause this is pretty dusty, real fine particulate. You want to do every other tooth, just like all saw blades, unless you're doing a ripsaw. That's the diamond wheel. Okay, we've made it all the way around. Turn it off. That's a ten degree bevel on that side. I'm going to flip it over and do a ten degree bevel on the opposite tooth. Then we do every other tooth because they're opposite. This has got a bevel on this side; this has got a bevel on the opposite side, the ten degree bevel here and the ten degree bevel on the other side. And...looks like we've gone all the way around. So that's the top of the tooth. You can see the tops have all been sharpened. Then we move over here and we're going to face every tooth. We have a 600-grit wheel. Not too hard, not too much pressure. Pound a pressure on each tooth. You want to face every tooth. You can see how we're squaring the tooth up. And that's all we have to do to top and face. And then we put a wrap around 'em and it's ready to go to the customer.
