"Light and flower formation is one and the same thing. You must give your African Violet four to six hours of morning or filtered light in order for them to produce a lovely flower. Northern or eastern facing windows are the best. If you find yourself having to put your African violet in a southern window or southern exposure you should put a filter fabric or some sort of screen on your window to prevent burning. Also when you are growing your African violets, turn your African Violet 1/4 of a turn every time you water and this will enable your plant to grow evenly in every direction and produce the maximum amount of flowers for your enjoyment.
