Finding Leaks in Outdoor Water Systems

"I'm Cathi Pare, water resource specialist in the city of Santa Barbara speaking to you today with expertvillage.com. We've done our water check. We've determined that we got a leak somewhere from the house out. It's not in the supply line by shutting it off up front. We are going to do an outside evaluation now. Outside evaluations start off with the obvious. Walk around and make sure your hoses are all turned off. That's there’s not a spicket in the back 40 that somebody put on and forgot. The next thing is you need to go to your irrigation controller. Take a look at your schedule, write it down if you don't have one and then we are going to turn each station on and take a look at them. We want to make sure that the sprinklers are not spraying down the street, that they are not out on the patio and that you don't have broken heads or in your drip system, some little pieces called emitters. They pop off occasionally and they spray straight up in the air 20 feet. They are easy to fix, easy to adjust. You can do it yourself. You should be sure that you do that at the beginning of every watering season and at least once throughout the summer to make sure that everything is working properly. "
