"Hi! I'm Cathi Pare with the City of Santa Barbara Water Resources speaking to you today for expertvillage.com. We've already looked at the meter and we determined that there was water running through the meter so the next step is we want to isolate is it outside the house or is it inside the house. The best way to do that is that you've got to find your shutoff that goes to your house. It's almost always in the bushes and its always on the front side of your house directly across from your meter. Right now you can see is this one has a yellow handle down here. It is easy to shut it off, pull it up, if this is going perpendicular to the pipe where the water is coming into your house, the water is shut off. So at this point we go down check the meter and we've already done this for you, there is no water leaking at this point so this stops anything. That means that the leak is not in the supply line; it means that the leak is in the house. So we are going to walk through next and check each of the different fixtures and try to figure out where that water is running and where it is being wasted. "
