How to Install a Wireless Doorbell

" Hi! My name is Chad Smith and I'm a state certified Journeyman Wireman basically I'm a electrician and I'm representing expertvillage.com. Today's project basically we are going to install a hardwire doorbell. But I wanted to talk a little bit about wireless doorbells for people they don't want to miss with electricity or they just don't want the hassle of doing electrical work and they don't, they are not comfortable with electricity and we want to talk a little bit about wireless doorbells and some of there advantages and maybe a couple of other disadvantages. Wireless doorbells are a new technology they have been around for a little while and basically how a wireless doorbell works is it works off a radio frequencies. Basically it is just like your wireless phone in your house or anything that operates off radio frequencies. In a wireless doorbell basically what that is there is no wire involve at all. The base is battery operated and the button the notification button is battery operated. Now there is some good things about a wireless doorbell that makes it a lot easier then the wire doorbell to install. Now the wire doorbell basically you have to take the old unit out, you have to should the power off, you have to make sure that the power is off so you don't get electrocuted. Now when you go to your home improvement center and look at doorbells some of the things that you are going to want to think about is, is this doorbell base matches the decorator of the inside of your house. Now there is so many chooses you are basically going to have to go to your local hardware store or home improvement center and look at the different doorbell that they have there. What a lot of people would do they just put the receiving unit or the doorbell part of the doorbell inside the house maybe in the kitchen or in the center area like a center hallway and they put the push button and really on the push button it just have a sticky back. So you just stick the button at the front door or back door or where ever you would like to be notified that there is somebody standing there. Now on a wireless doorbell the average distance on a decent wireless doorbell is 30-50 feet. So you need to make sure that the button is close enough that the unit would receive the signal and activate. Some of the advantages of a hardwire doorbell as oppose to a wireless doorbell hardwire is a little bit more reliable just cause you have the wire there and your not going to have a radio frequency problem. Sometimes you need to check into to make sure they are radio frequency of your doorbell they don't miss with other radio frequency around your home like your cordless phone or a lot of things operate around radio frequency now days. And just make sure that you take out the old switch before you put the new one on that is going to confuse everybody. So but, today we are installing a hardware doorbell in our house here.
