Staining a Gazebo

"So now that we have all of our lattice up, next step is we are going to go ahead and start staining. But before we stain, we've got actually look at our stain. The kind of stain you want to get is a water proofing exterior stain and you want to carefully read all of the instructions before you even open the can and start using the stain. Then you are going to need also rags. With your rags, you are going to want to make sure they are actual cloth rags and not paper towels. Paper towels tend to rub off wood and then you haeg a lot of white fuzzy things that will dry on your wood and not look right. You are also going to want some Latex gloves. Now it is good to wear one pair but I suggest wearing two because you never know if one of those gloves rip, this stuff will stain your fingertips and it is really hard to get off of your hands. Now wood preparation. Generally outside wood like this is ready for staining but go over it. If you made any pencil marks or if any of your chalk has gotten on anywhere, you are going to want to wipe it up and get it nice and cleaned off and get everything nice and fresh wood prepared for staining. If you see any overly rough spots like right here we have a little bit of sap, that's no good. So you can get a damp cloth and wipe the sap off or you can get a sander and you can sand down your whole thing if that is what you need."
