I have two pairs of tools here. This is a bypass pruner which is very good for cutting woody stems. And, some nice heavy duty scissors for trimming back leaves. Gonna use the bypass pruners to remove these old flower stalks on this hosta. We would take these off because this plant, you can see is all nice and green, it's still sending a lot of energy, the plant itself is pushing a lot of energy into these stalks and we really don't want the plant putting energy into stalks where the flowers have already been spent and already bloomed out. So, I'm gonna take them out. The next thing I'm going to do is look for leaves that might be a little bit diseased or sun scalded, which there's not a whole lot on this plant. But, we're gonna remove them as well, because they're not going to help the plant in any way so I'm gonna just take them off with my scissors and cut back anything that's spent. Here's another one here, I'm gonna just trim that leaf off. You can see the little bit of, it might have had some fungus or gotten dry at one point and so the leaves got a little singed on the edges. So, I'm going to remove them off of the plant and I'm going to take it all the way down to the base of the plant. Here's another one here, I'm going to take that off. These are in pretty good shape.
