How to Winterize a Hot Tub

"OK, here we're going to talk about how to winterize a spa. A lot of people enjoying using their spa in the winter but for those of you that are not going to be around the spa in the winter time, it's very important to that we evacuate all the water out of all the plumbing, heaters, pumps, blowers, anywhere in the spa that's going to trap water that could possibly freeze and cause damage. First thing to do is simply drain the spa. If you do have a spa with a blower, you're going to want to turn the air blower on after it's drained to push the air and water out of the, the water out of those pipes. Secondly, any pumps will have a drain plug on them. You'll want to remove the drain plugs. It's a common sense thing really. You want to disconnect any low lying pipes with unions to evacuate the water out of them. Some other techniques are to use shop vacs. To put them, place them on their jets, and suck the water out. You can also remove the filters, suck the water out of the filter ports. I would highly recommend you contact your dealer to ask them specifics about your brand of spa to get things winterized. In a lot of spas there is water trapped that you might not be aware of and so using a shop vac or an air blower or even a non-toxic RV anti-freeze is a good item to use in winterizing spas. "
