We are talking about lighting design today. There are certainly some unquantifiable values to having a lighting designer on your project. Creating that magic and that mood and that aesthetic comes from understanding lighting. Understanding what it can do and what it can't do and how to apply that properly to the space. Bringing the theatrical techniques into architecture is the balance. It seems that about 10 or 15 years ago was when architecture and entertainment really started to meld. We had casinos and theme parks that were popping out that really became themed environments. Restaurants that really became themed in nature required a lighting designer to help create that. There are a number of educational opportunities if you are looking at going into lighting design. There are a few collegiate programs that have lighting design. Most of them are architectural engineering programs.
