"Some of the tricks you'll have to learn before learning how to do a straight heel flip is you'll need to ollie comfortably and consistently. Once you've learned how to ollie comfortably and consistently another trick that will help you is knowing how to kick flip steady. Knowing how to kick flip gives you the knowledge of how to hit the tail, flip the board, stay in the air long enough and wait for the board to continue flipping and land back on and those are all helpful things, but people who can't do kick flips can sometimes do heel flips. It doesn't necessarily go in that order. Sometimes people have a knack for heel flips and they're able to do them before kick flips, but if you do know how to kick flip it definitely helps. Another thing that may help you learn how to heel flip is a kind of strange trick that's not around as much anymore, but the ollie one foot. The ollie one foot is when you ollie and kick the front foot off the board and put it back on the board. The motion of the heel flip is very similar to the one foot. So the more comfortable you are with kicking your foot off the front of the board the better. So all of these tricks will definitely help you learn how to do a heel flip."
