Angel Ornaments Holiday Antiques

"When collecting holiday, these are one of the things I really like, these wax angels. These were really popular right around the turn of the century, right around 1900. I wish I had an example for you but in some of my books you can see where there were trees displayed in stores during that period of time where they would be filled with hundreds of these little wax angel ornaments. These are Dresden, these are German ornaments, composition with a wax, spun glass wax wings with a Dresden mark, the paper mark on the back, and they had these little skirts with a little bit of lace on the bottom, very typical with a little strap that ran around the top of their bodies. You can see a different example here, but, and I'm showing you these two just to show some example of conditions. Because these are really, they're composition, they're really easily perishable. You put them in an attic, they get porous and they get discolored and dirty. This poor angel lost her hair, she's got a really cute face, but no hair, she's bald. So, that's not unusual. The arms break off, the legs break off. Typically, the ones I've seen, they show these strings, they hang from a string, a tall string on them, a lot of them got lost over the years, but I've seen them displayed, they're also displayed this way, with a hook and you hang them from your tree. These can be really expensive they can cost you anywhere from $75.00 to $150.00. They come in different sizes, you can find them in 3 inch, 4 inch up to 5 or 6 inch, I think, you'll have to check the books, but there's a wide range in size, also. You find stand-up angels that are flying and they're standing up rather than hanging this way, so there's a variety of different choice when you're looking at collecting just these particular angels from the turn of the century, so this one example of many examples of ornaments during that period. On the table here you can see we have three or four different ones, the hair on this right here is a little bit different, the color of the face is a little bit different. Varying conditions also but there's five examples of these turn of the century wax angel ornaments."
