Antique Pink Luster Collecting: Discoloration

"So we are going to talk about a little bit about discoloration as a shop keeper and a antique dealer I try not to buy pieces that has a lot of discoloration because for resale people do not when you are going to put some tea in a cup or in a saucer you are not going to want to look at stained pieces. So I try to buy the best pieces that I can for my customers so I don't have a lot of examples of really lots of discoloration but I can show you here. I'm going to show you one on this cup inside there is a little yellowing and that is natural when the glaze starts to break down you can see inside just the discoloration in there. You would see that variant in a lot of cups and saucer that over the years the glaze starts to break down and this starts to turn a brownish color and you might get spots or the whole teacup can be totally discolored because of the breaking down of the glaze so that is a example. So here is another example on here with this teapot because it has lines and cracks on it you can see where it started to discolor here right here in the teapot and on the inside you can see some discoloration in there not a lot but there is some. But those are the things to look for when you are buying a piece of luster. You don't want to spend a lot of money on a piece where the glaze is broken down and there is a lot of discoloration so I will say buy the best piece that you can with the least amount of discoloration which is not a easy thing to do when you are buying early 1800 pieces but the thing to keep in mind when you are looking for pink luster."
