"Early on in a tournament you want to pretty much emulate your cash game style. I think that most people early in a tournament should play rather tight. The reason is that the blinds are a low percentage of your total chips. If you can divide the blinds say fifty or a hundred times into your total stack then you don't have much to worry about early in a tournament. You want to be very careful about what you're willing to go broke on in level one, level two, level three. Let's look at an example. Let's look at someone who might be playing too loose early on in a tournament. Here's the dealer, here's small blind, here's big blind. Under the gun is the first to act. He looks down and he sees jack ten suited. Well unfortunately this person is a pretty loose player and he thinks the jack ten suited is something that he wants to play and play aggressively early in a tournament. He decides to raise three times the big blind. "
