Introduction

Recently, Mozilla set a new Guinness World Record for the largest number of software downloads in 24 hours, with their launch of web browser Mozilla Firefox 3. The record setting downloads were 8,002,530 on 17th June, 2008. (That is approximately 5600 downloads per minute!). You may be wondering about the hype around Firefox web browser and may be considering to switch from Internet Explorer to Firefox (or just give it a try), but you may have some concerns. How do I import my precious saved favorites (or bookmarks)? Or do all websites work with Firefox? How do I send email with Firefox? How about pop-up blocking software? What about the latest security upgrades? Where are all my bookmarks and settings stored? This article will show you how you can switch from IE to Firefox seamlessly with step-by-step guide. This is part I of the series on Make a Switch to Firefox, in part II, I will include the most useful and popular features in Firefox. In the part III, I will include top 10 Add-On extensions to add functionality to Firefox, letting you personalize your browsing experience. (Video tutorial does not contain audio.)

Step1
~ Mozilla Firefox is full-featured, lightning fast, easy to use, and free open-source web browser. It runs on almost everything, Windows, Linux and MAC OS X.

~ To download Firefox, go to www.getfirefox.com and select “Download Firefox”. (Direct link is provided in the resource section of this article.)
Step2
~ When asked to 'Run the file' or 'Save it to your computer', select 'Run' to begin installation. If you save it to your computer, save the file to your desktop and double-click the Firefox Setup .exe file to start the install.
Step3
~ Follow the instructions. The installation is pretty straight-forward. During the installation, you may choose to make Firefox default web browser.
Step4
~ The Firefox can import your existing settings from Internet Explorer. An import wizard will run when you first install Firefox, and it imports your Favorites, options, cookies, stored passwords, and a variety of other data. This saves you time customizing Firefox to fit your needs.

~ An import wizard is also available later through the File menu, File > Import.
