"Now in the last segment I mentioned that in order to get a cue ball to stop on contact with an object ball it needs to slide into that object ball. And I also pointed out that from a very short distance such as this you should be able to hit the cue ball right in the center and get it to slide that distance. But what happens when they get to be further distances? Say from that length there. Can you actually slid that ball all the way over there without it losing the slide and picking up any forward roll? Or, would you have to hit it lower, maybe? Which by hitting it lower what you?re going to do is impart some back spin to it. But, what happens if it doesn't loose that back spin by the time it gets over there? It's not going to stop dead still. So, what we need to realize is that the cue ball is going to have three actions on it if you hit it high, low, or center and if your hitting it right in the center, it will start out sliding, but it will only slide so far, it starts to build friction between the bottom of the ball and the cloth and then it loses that slide. It turns into a forward roll. But, if you start it out with a backward spin, it'll lose that backward spin over a distance, it'll turn into a short slide and then it'll lose that sliding action and then it will turn into a forward roll. And we can demonstrate all three actions with the cue ball right here. Right here, what I am going to do it hit this below center, you'll watch this strike it'll turn into a back spin, it'll lose it right about in here, it'll slide for a short distance and it, then it will turn into a forward roll, just like such. There. Did you see all three actions in there? So, the trick now is to practice hitting the cue ball at different speeds so that every stop shot you shoot your catching that object ball while the cue ball is in its sliding mode."
