" Hello! This is Ross on behalf of the expertvillage.com. What is a series circuit? This is a series circuit. The components are connected one after the other. Current flows through the circuit in only one path. So if I want to draw the series circuit here. We will talk more about schematics later. What I have is the power on one side and also I have the return negative here. I have a resistor, I have an LED that is installed with the anode within the cathode, it’s a light emitting diode and the circuit completes. Electrons actually flow from the negative to the positive but since this is more positive other side than this side, current flows through lighting up the LED. This resistor is in place to protect this diode. The circuit of series is one path to flow."

on 8/18/2008 Hi, an led only lights up when current flows from anode to cathode. being a light emitting "diode" it blocks current flowing from cathode to anode. The resistor is current limiting. Resisting the flow so the led doesn't burn out. Hence => the way you mentioned the flow is wrong.
