Summary: Learn how to apply hoof black to win a horse show - free video.
"Hi my name is Sarah Stetner, I'm a expert horse rider on behalf of Expert Village and in this video I'm just showing you how to prepare for showmanship. I just showed you how to clip his mane in the last segment and now I'm going to go ahead and show you how to hoof black. Hoof blacking comes right like the morning of showmanship or you can do it the night before. I usually do it the morning of and what you want to do its to make the horse hoof look either black or clear which ever color hoof they have. Rowdy has black and clear so basically we just went ahead and painted all of it black. So you do want to get something flat to get the horse to stand on like a lid here which I'm going to use. This is the hoof black and then I also have a hoof black remover in case say you get the hoof black on like the hair. You can use the hoof black remover to get it off. So it is just like painting my toenail and I'll go ahead and get the hoof black down here. You are going to do this to all four feet and again you want to remember you want your horse clean. He is not clean because he didn't have a bath but a normal showmanship you would be taking of the leg wraps and then you will be able to hoof black. So his hoof will be all clean for you. So you just ask him for his hoof. Go ahead and slide the lid under and he is not in the middle of it so that is perfect. You want him to go ahead and stand, take the hoof black out. It is just like painting something, you want to get the top up here. So you want to keep painting it until it is all done. You want to make sure you don't miss a spot. Like I said if you do get it in the hair, you just want to go ahead and use the hoof black remover and get it out. So that is hoof blacking the hoof, I will do this for all four feet. "
