Hi this is Scott Thompson from expertvillage.com, and today we are going to demonstrate how you can show a group of students that water actually has skin. Well, the demonstration that we are doing here about surface tension is really... isn't new: mother nature does this all the time, and she has some of her insects out in the wild able to do this. They can actually walk right on water. They look like they are magically walking, but it is their legs that are actually taking advantage of the surface tension, distributing their weight. And they don't actually break through the surface of the water. So they can just scoot across the water. Like water spiders or water bugs. Soap works so well in fact at breaking some surface tension that some fire departments use soap in their water that they are spraying on fires. In actually makes the water wetter.
