"Robbie for Expert Village. Frequencies, very important when you get an RC. If you're driving by yourself frequencies really don't matter. Frequency is a channel ok, or a prescribed channel that the car actually runs on where the transmitter communicates with the car. If you're by yourself, something that you never think about soon as you start getting around other radio controlled vehicles it becomes extremely important to make sure that each car that's running in an area is on its own frequency. If you get two cars that are on the same one, one of them is going to go crazy it takes off, its called a run-away so it actually either car doesn't know what to do. So most times it'll just crank the throttle open and rip away we've seen a lot of damaged, lost cars broken, busted up stuff so frequencies are very important. Most of, in general, you can select a radio 27 megahertz radio which is what comes with most kits has six different frequencies which is fine. You can step up from that to a 75 megahertz radio that has 30 different frequencies and those are actual crystals that you would purchase. So if you want to change frequencies, you pull the crystal out, stick another crystal in both the radio and the car. Crystals can cost anywhere from 12 dollars up to say 30 dollars per set. The newest thing to come out lately is spectrum or DSM radios. It uses the same technology as like your cordless phone at home 2.4 gigahertz no interference what so ever from home phones or wireless service providers or anything like that. With these there is no crystals. There digital they work just like your phone, it picks it up, it looks for a channel when it finds a free channel it'll actually bind and it'll own that channel the whole time. There's no worrying about other RC's no changing crystals, you just turn it on. If you're out there by yourself doesn't really matter much if you start coming out to race tracks or places and hanging out where there's other RC's you got to be very very careful to make sure that you have proper frequency or your own individual frequency or a radio where it doesn't even matter anymore."
