"Hello! This is Robert Beverly for Expert Village. Now it's time to talk about how to role play. Role playing is one of the core elements of a role playing game of course, hence the name. It's sort of one of the hardest things to do sometimes. People get caught up in the mechanics of a role playing game like Dungeons and Dragons and they just end up rolling dice and going thru battles, but that's really not what the game is all about. What you really need to do to be a good player or a good dungeon master is to be able to empathize with these fantasy characters that you've created and think the way that they would think. So if they are someone who grew up on the streets and had a tough upbringing and you're not, you have to think like that character. Do things like that character would do them, not the way you would do them. There are a couple of different way that people end up role playing. For example, in conversation depending on the group you're in, the character that you are playing let's say is having a conversation with another character. The 2 players will talk to each other as if they were their characters. For example, Hello Thadius, how are you doing? I'm wondering if you can buy me another beer.Whereas in other groups you might just say, Okay, Theadore asks Thadius id he can buy him another beer. That's up to your preference and the dungeon master's preference. It can enrich the game either way you do it, but it's important to have your characters interacting with each other as if they are those characters and not just the players. Other than that, you'll want to develop some investigative skills and learn how to use your character to interigate or interview other characters or nonplayers that are in the game so that they can talk to people, gather information and find out more about quests that they are supposed to go on and problems that they're supposed to solve in the game. Keep that in mind while you're playing and have fun. "
