"Now a strop bend is a classic bend that you can put in two loops. I used to do this as a kid, as I would tie a whole bunch of rubber bands together using the strop bend. I hadn't, didn't know what it was called at the time, it was just fun. So if we look down here at the table, we can see I've got two loops all ready prepared, two pieces of ropes that I've tied together. And what we're going to do here, is we're going to place my blue one over the top of my red one. We're going to pull my red one through on my standing end. Now what I'm going to do, is I'm going to pull it down to where I get to my knot here, which is going to be my working end, my standing end. I'm going to pull it this way. Now if I continue to pull it this way, you can see its going to knot itself in a fashion like this. Well this isn't quite proper, because its not going to have the holding technique we want. So what we're going to do, is we're going to try to stretch this one out a little bit. So we have a loop and a loop here, that mimic one another. And as we pull them together, you will see it will make a nice tight bend. Now the great uses of putting a bend in this knot, is because the bend is easily taken out of these. Well its not really taken easily out of rubber bands, but out of these ropes its great. And that's the great reason we use bends, is so that we can tie two pieces of opposite rope together and easily untie them."
