How to Tie a Harness Bend

"Now the hardest bend is a great simple bend and as the name implies it was known to carters and wagoneers back in the days of horse-drawn carriages. It was widely used because of its simplicity. Like with most bends, bends are different from knots because it is a way to attach two ropes in a way that they can be unattached without actually destroying the rope. Now if you look here on the table I have two ropes coming in at one another. They're both coming in at opposite angles here. What I am going to do is take my upper rope, my blue rope and put a little bit more length here on my working end. I am going to bend it right here on my red rope, my upper rope, and I am going to take it back this way and then twist it around itself and then back over again. As you can see I just made a loop around my red line. What I am going to do with my red line is take it up and over, under, and around like this. Now I have two bends, that was incorrect, let's do it this way. Now I have two simple bends. Now as I pull these together, pull them first on my standing end and then pull them on my working end. This knot comes together very nicely and it is a very strong tight bend and a great way to attach two ropes together. This is great for natural cordage and it is even great for leather cording and it is easily able to be untied. "
