on 8/2/2008 This is backwards. The standing end should hold the load. The working end should have a quick-release loop.

"A Highwaymans Hitch is a great way to impress your friends with if you are into impressing your friends with your knots so if you look down here, you can see that I have my hitch that I am going to use and this is a nice stable hitch that you are going to use to attach this with. I am going to take my line and create a bight in it like so and pull it down a little bit so I got it. I am going to stick it under here and take my working end and create another bight in it like so. There is no need in twisting it, just bight over bight. I am going to secure it. I am going to take my standing end and pull another loop in it like this. Once again just keep your line together and straight and as you pull this one it will tighten into a nice tight hitch. You can actually put something else in here to hold it if you actually need a third hand to hold something while you are working. Let's do this one more time just to make sure we have got it. Take our line and create a bight in it like so and then I'm going to take my working end and create another bight in it. Like I said no need to twist it just push it through and then tighten up my standing end and put another bight into it without twisting it and then pulling through the bight on my working end and then pulling my working end tight. There you go you can see that this is a nice easy slip knot to actually put something in there and grasp it and bind it and there you go a Highwaymans Hitch. "
