"OKay, it's not entirely necessary that you know what all the different components are that go into making your cue. However, when you're looking to buy a cue that may have a certain feel and hit to it that you might like, you do want to know what the different components are called because those different components actually give you, the way that they're put together, and different combinations of different materials will give you a different hit and feel in the cue. So, when you're looking to specify certain things, if you say was to go get a custom cue built, then you want to know what these things are called. So, starting out, we have the leather part up here at the very top, which is the tip, of course, and that's the part that contacts the cue ball. Beneath that, the white part, is called the ferrule. That's to protect the shaft, keep the shaft from splitting from the impact of hitting the cue ball. Then we have the shaft section itself which is generally backed up with a reinforcing collar, like this one down here. Then we have the butt section which normally has some sort of a wrap put on there for the grip. And, there you have your different components in the standard pool cue."
