Off Table Straight Riffle Shuffling a Deck of Cards

"Hi I'm Pete and welcome back to Expert Village and today we are learning how to shuffle cards. What are the benefits of doing a straight riffle shuffle is that you could do it without needing a solid surface in front of you. You could do it off a table. In order to do a straight riffle shuffle off the table you want to hold the cards in the following position with your thumb at the top of the deck, your pinkie and two middle fingers at the bottom and your index finger again curled at the back of the deck. Using your thumb and pressure from your index finger riffle down the main stock of the deck and slap it into your open left hand. Stop once you get about half way. Now that you have this position rotate the deck by lifting up with these fingers of these hand of the right hand and turn the cards into the position that you have with the other hand. Notice that both hands now have the cards in the same position. I show you that roll over again. You want to flip through the cards until you have about half of the deck. Let that fall into your left hand and as you lift up with these fingers push off with the remaining fingers of your right hand. Now that you have the deck in this position turn the cards face down. Your index finger should be at the back of each half of the packet and your outside finger should be allowing you to push pressure down with your thumb. Now that you are off the table you could simply spring the cards back and forth against each other while keeping pressure outside fingers so the cards do not fall out of your hand. Notice how my fingers are curled at the bottom of the deck. Now that the cards are interlace I could simply hold my position with my thumbs, push my index fingers along right next to my other fingers and push the cards together."
