"Hi, I’m Mike Camelin with SunState Aviation Flight School in Kissimmee, Florida for Expert Village. You know one of the most thrilling parts about flight training is when the student takes that first solo flight. Out of your flight training at least 10 hours is required by the FAA of solo flight. Meaning that the student is by themselves in the airplane, this is necessary because it instills confidence in the student’s ability leading up toward their check ride when they become a Private Pilot. In Aviation there’s a tradition that goes way back to the old days that we’re keeping alive here at SunState Aviation. This is when the student makes their first solo flight, the instructor will cut the back of the t-shirt of the student out and usually decorate it and hang it up on a wall at the flight school or give it back to the student so that they can take it home as a souvenir."
