"Hi, I’m Mike Camelin with SunState Aviation Flight School in Kissimmee, Florida. Now one of the things that we really want to zero in on when we’re doing a preflight inspection of the aircraft is all of the control surfaces of the aircraft such as the ailerons, the elevator and the rudder. We want to make sure that these are securely fastened to the airplane and that they have complete freedom of movement, up and down. Now a normal preflight check will take about 10 to 15 minutes to inspect the entire airplane. We’re just going to zero in on a couple of important points, we mentioned the control surfaces and the freedom but they also have connection points and we want to inspect those very thoroughly to make sure that all the bolts are attached securely. That nothing’s going to fall loose during your flight. We also want to check the counter weights and make sure that they are also securely fastened. That nothing’s going to come loose and jam the control surface in flight."
