" Hi, this is Mike Lopez with Expert Village. Today we're going to be discussing Magic: The Gathering, the card game. Now we're going to go over counters and tokens. For instance, there are marbles and other things you can buy from the hobby store that people use for tokens. I like to use shark's teeth. When a card, such as the Elvish Handservant, has an ability, whenever a player plays a giant spell, you may put a one-one counter on this card -- shark's teeth (3) -- to indicate that this creature is now a four-four. He's a one-one with three plus-one, plus-one counters. On the other hand, a token, which you can double up and use, is for instance, on this card, whenever you play and have a spell, you may play a one-one green elf token. The difference between counters and tokens is: Counters go on cards and tokens go on the side and each one represents its own one-one creature. Now if they were to get counters from something else, you could always just double up and this is now two-two. Some people use different to notify different... but this is counters and tokens."
