"Hi this is Mike Lopez with Expert Village. Today we're going to be discussing Magic: the Gathering the card game. Now we're going to go over card abilities. The first ability we're going to go over is static. Static occurs when there is an ability that just is. It doesn't have to be triggered or does not have to be paid for with mana. See, we have here the Sunrise Sovereign. His static ability is; Other Giant creatures you control get 2/ 2 and have trample. So no matter what, as long as this card is in play, the ability transfers to all the other cards. Lord of the Pit is a creature demon, he has flying and trample. Those are his abilities. Means he's a flying creature and tramples. Also another static ability, which is actually the downfall of the person who played this card. At the beginning of your upkeep you have to sacrifice a creature other than Lord of the Pit or Lord of the Pit deals 7 damage to you. This is static because it always occurs. The Cloud Sprite on the other hand, has some static abilities. It's flying, but another static ability is that the Cloud Sprite can not block any creature without flying. Which means to say, the Cloud Sprite can block only creatures with flying."
