"MIKE LOPEZ: Hi. I'm Mike Lopez with Expert Village, and today we're going to be discussing the black color from "Magic: The Gathering". And here have "Vampire Bats". "Vampire Bats" has been around since the beta. It's another very powerful card out of black. You're going to see a lot of powerful cards out of black. Once again, it's a common out of your basic set. We are on the 10th edition. As you can see by this icon, it is a creature; it is a bat, which means it counts as a bat and anything that will benefit a bat, benefits this creature. Now, vampire bats come in a play; its 1, which means it's a first-turn card, it's an 0/1 creature. Now, why would you have an 0/1 creature? Well, there's lot of reasons to have 0/1 creatures. Some creatures give you mana; this creature on the other hand is pumpable. As we see here, the ability that comes into play is that this creature is flying, and you may spend a black mana and vampire bats get + 1/+ 0 until the end of turn. Play this ability no more then twice its turn, which means you can play this ability twice, which means you can pump them up twice. However, you can only do this twice, which means you can't infinitely pump them up, which means you can only be a 2/1 every turn, but that is still powerful considering you only played 1 mana for flying creature with this ability."
