What are Bogus Plays in Dominoes

"Hi! I’m Nathan Holsey, author of the book The Dominologist. On behalf of expertvillage.com, in this clip I’d like to talk to you about playing bogus. Playing bogus is not always obvious, especially when you’re playing with more advanced type of dominos. For example, all these dominos are one color, they’re all black, they have black pips. The spinner, notice is the double blank and then the spinners close with other blanks. But look here, notice there is a 1 on the 5, that is a bogus play. This cannot play there, this would have to play here on this domino like so, so this is considered bogus. Now let me show you a much easier bogus to spot. Here where the double 5 and 4 is on the 5, that’s obvious. When you’re playing with colored dominos, this is more for the beginner. So this of course, the 1 will play over here and not on the 5 but sometimes you do get caught up in a bogus play. Once you’ve played bogus, the game is over, done, start a whole new game. "
