"My name is Malcolm Davis, I’m a professional Backgammon player. I’m here for expertvillage.com to hopefully teach you basically how to play. Now my opponent has rolled and made what we call the five play. Notice this is twenty-four, twenty-three, twenty-two, twenty-one, twenty, nineteen, eighteen, twelve, eleven, ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five. So he’s made what we call his five point. Okay, now I will roll, it’s my turn. And I’ve rolled a two-five, which is not particularly good, but you play what you’ve rolled. Well, I’ve played this game a lot, studied it a lot, so there’s any number of ways this dice roll can be played, but the correct play is to go one, two, with the two noted this is very important, I don’t have an option of coming out here because this is belongs to my opponent, this is a point, I can’t come up here because this belongs to my opponent, it’s called a point, two or more checkers on a pip comprise a point. Now I can leap over a point, but I can’t land on it. So now I have a five to play. So one, two, three, four, five. That’s the best play that can be made for this initial sequence of dice rolls. "
