Mancala Game Setup

"Hello! My name is Melissa Schenk on behalf of expertvillage.com, having worked at the world-renowned Family and Company toy store in Stratford, Ontario, I’m here today to teach you some tips and techniques on the basic rules on playing Mancala. Now, in earlier segments, we discussed the board itself and also the stones and what I really enjoy about this game is that it is a 2 player game and the stones themselves, Mancala is meant to be a relaxing game. It usually takes only approximately about 15 minutes to play or less, depending on the level of difficulty. As I mentioned, if you begin with 3 stones in each of the compartments, that would be 36 stones in total. That’s a beginner type of game to start off with the 3 stones, you’ll see what I mean in later segments. To make it more intermediate, you would want to have 4 stones in each of the compartments. And to really push yourself and make it advanced, then we jump up into 6 stones, which gets rather complicated and these compartments really start to get filled up. But now let’s talk about the setup of the game itself. What we do as I mentioned, if we’re going to start off with 3 stones in each of the compartments, put 3 stones in each of them on both sides and what we have to keep in mind is there are 2 players. So player A, that would be you, this would be your side of the board down here and we move in counterclockwise motion. So you are down here, this is your storage component, so your store right over here. Moving in a counterclockwise motion, I will be player B. I am right along here, this back part right here and this is my storage container, alright. So what we have established with Mancala, 2-player game and we’re moving in a counterclockwise motion. Your storage component's here, with your larger storage container here, mine is on the backside with this in here. The next segment, we’re going to talk about the actual object of the game Mancala. "
