"Hi, now I'm going to talk about proper foot placement. Proper foot placement is essential when you're hiking to keep you safe and save a lot of energy. You need to be able to pick the smoothest line. Now, picking your smoothest line is really simple, take a look here, if I was gonna walk anywhere here it would probably be OK, but if I'm coming here, I don't want to step on this rock, it's dangerous, I could hurt myself or something. So, you want to pick the smoothest line, so, the easiest way to get around this would be to just simply circumvent the rock. And now, if you see what I've done, I've picked the smoothest line up the hill, just a few steps, but this keep me from wiggling around on rocks and stuff, which will keep me saving energy because I'm not expending a lot of it trying to keep myself upright and it also is safer so I don't twist an ankle or stub my toe or anything like that. A good pair of boots will help prevent that, but you still want to be able to pick the smoothest line. You can practice, just go out in the street and when you're walking down the sidewalk just, what's the easiest way to get through all the people or anything like that. It'll make you more confident when you're on the trail, you'll hike faster, and you'll be a lot safer. It's a really important part of hiking and you should practice it just a little bit. It doesn't take a whole long time to learn and it's a really useful skill to know."
