"For Expert Village I'm Kurt Glaser, N7QJM. On today?s session we're talking about what actually makes up the ham rig persay. We're going to break it down. As you know in ham radio everything like in a lot of other things as well there are just different names for each thing that we use. Our ham radio gear is actually called our rig, the shack we're where actually in right now, the place where we're actually at, is called a shack, as you can see it's full of stuff and we're having a lot of fun operating ham radio. And then the actual gear, over here, we call it the rig and we're going to be breaking those down. Let's go through each of those parts right now, so you get a better understanding of what they are. Various components which make up an amateur radio station. And this is a big part of it, probably the most important of all of it. This is actually a two element beam on a rotor as you can see right there. The front end is right here as you can see, and the back end is over here like this. This would be the first element, as they call it in amateur radio, and this other one in the back would be the second element. This is where the antenna actually plugs into, now that we've talked about the antenna, and this is actually a tuner, you can actually trim the antenna since I can operate on multiple bands during broadcasting. That then, as actually turn the antenna is turned around and around so I can zero in on things. From this little unit right here, which actually is a rotor. This is the important piece of the pie right here, well try and get some nice shots of that. This is the transceiver, this operates via the microphone and you can also plug in a normal key, and this operates in a really neat way, you can transmit and receive signals quit extensively. And then finally, this is the power supply down here and this operates how much power's going to the transceiver for your broadcasting. So that's the pieces of this rig and now we're going to get into the fun part which is actually operating the rig so you can see how it actually operates, now that you've got your ticket, you've got your rig, you're set up and you're ready to go.
