"In this example I want to show you how checkmates can be done with two rooks and again let us assume for the sake of simplicity there is only the black king remaining on the board. The idea again is to drive the king back to the edge of the board and when you look at these situations you want to decide which is the quickest way to go? Which edge is the king closest to? Now if you look here the king has only two squares to live as it were and here he would have three. So the quickest way really would be to push him that way so let's start doing that. First move there. He can't come here you notice because of this rook here so let's say that he stays as close as he can to the center, let's say that he goes here. The next move would be to here. Now the king is in check and the king cannot move back as he would like to towards the safety of the center because he is blocked by the other rook so what is probably going to happen in that situation is he is going to attack this rook and so he does but the thing is the rook can very easily out pace him and simply go up here so now black can't go on to that file so all he can do is move up and down here. Let's say he goes here as it is somewhat more central. Again white comes in and checks him now on that file. Again he cannot move back, he has got to get off the file he is in check. Where does he go, he has nowhere to go but here and then the cou degraw checkmate so that is basically how check is done, a very simple check with two rooks."
