"Another law that you need to know about is making a certain number of moves within a specified time. Now this does not apply really at the beginner level, but once you do start to climb up the ladder and you start to play chess at the club level and so on, you will be playing with clocks. A chess clock is a very simple device. It starts immediately the game begins and as soon as white makes his first move, he flicks a lever which basically stops his clock and starts the opponent's clock. The opponent then makes his move and once again moves the lever back so that it's back to white. Now there is an important concept here and that is that you will be required at that level of chess to make a certain number of moves within a specified time. Usually it is 30 moves within a 90 minute time frame, although there are other ways it can be setup as well. But you do just need to be aware that one of the laws of chess is about making a certain number of moves."
