Summary: Everyone in a speed boat needs to have a life vest. Learn about buying speed boat accessories in this free boating video from a speed boat salesman.
"Some of the things you're going to want to consider when you purchase a boat is getting life vests. Coast Guard regulations anything that floats in the waterways. Everyone in the boat has to at least have a life preserver on the boat. If the kids are twelve and under they have to have them while the boat is in motion at all times. But, for example, if you have eight adults on the boat, you need to have eight life vests in the boat contained at all times if you ever get pulled over. And that is for your safety. Another thing you also have to have is a throw cushion. You have to have one life preserver throw cushion in every boat. And this is so if someone's out there and can't swim that well, what they can do is actually throw it to them and on the other side you actually have grab handles. They can hold onto it and float back to the boat for safety. Another must that the Coast Guard recommends is a fire extinguisher. And this varies from different boats. The bigger the boats are they might actually want you to regulate a bigger fire extinguisher or more than one. Typically, most of the boats we sell have at least one to two fire extinguishers on the boat at all times. A whistle is another important thing, or you can purchase a boat with an electric horn. It does have to have a sounding device for safety. Also, you have to have navigational lights. Now most of the boats we--powerboats nowadays all come with navigational lights. That's usually something you don't have to purchase that's extra. Another thing you want to consider is an anchor rope and chain. The reason why you want to consider that is if something ever happened to your motor and the current was drifting you into some rocks or something like that, for safety you could actually throw the anchor overboard and tie it off, and then wait for someone to come help you."
