"JOHN SEXTON: Halo 3 is a registered trademark of Bungie Software, a company with which I have no affiliation. Now, the conflict with the humans and the Covenant is that the Covenant believe that these rings are part of some sort of spiritual journey that they must make. And so, the Covenant believe that by activating the rings, they will be rewarded with eternal life and, basically, go to their equivalent of heaven and make what they call the Great Journey or the Great Spiritual Journey. And so, they are hell-bent on activating the rings. They understand that it's going to kill everything in the universe, but they believe that by doing it, and by them being the ones to activate the rings, they will be demonstrating themselves as chosen ones and will reap the rewards. Of course, you as Master Chief, and the humans know that that's insane, and it's very irresponsible to activate something that would kill all life in the universe. So, that is why the humans and the Covenant are at conflict. So the reason the Covenant have invaded the Earth is because they believe that there is an object on the Earth called the Ark which is sort of a remote control for all the Halos in the galaxy, and what they want to do is come to Earth and find the Ark, and dig up and activate it, so that they can activate all the Halos and undertake this spiritual journey that the Covenant prophets keep promising to them, and of course, that would destroy the earth and everybody on it and everybody in the galaxy, so Master Chief, and the marines, and all the good guys here can't let that happen. Meanwhile, however, you have to find another way to defeat the menace of the Flood, which would, essentially, cause the same end as activating the Halo, which would be that everything in the universe would be dead, humans and Covenant alike. So the dilemma here is several fold, and it's kinda what keeps the drama of Halo interesting as you play from mission to mission. So, we've got to stop the Covenant from activating Halo. We've got to stop them from finding the Ark, and we've gotta stop the Flood from eating everything, and that's what we're doing here. So that's why where shooting all these guys in the face. It's for the greater good."
