Summary: Learn about loading the film in the canister in a darkroom in this free photography video.
" If you miss a spot and it is tight in there, chances are the film will be touching itself. That is, if it gets really close together in there and if it’s not just right, the film will be touching another spot on the film. If that happens when you process it by the time you find out that there was some damage, it will be too late and the damage is permanent. So until you build up a little confidence in processing film, I would certainly not use any film that was irreplaceable or very important. I would use practice films and just play around type of film. So when you get to the very end and you get to the spool, I just grab it like I did with the leader and tear it off. If you feel the tape and you pull the tape off, particularly if it is cold, dry weather, it will generate some static electricity and it can fog your last frame or too, so you are better off just tearing it. Not all film has tape on it but a lot of it does. It depends on the brand, etc. but you are still better off tearing it or cutting it with scissors. "
