" Hi! I am Jeff Thompson with Thompson Air Hot Air Balloon Rides and we are talking with Expert Village today about the qualifications to become a pilot for hot air balloon. If you are going to take a balloon flight somewhere around the country it is important to find out a reputable company and someone that has plenty of flight time. A hot air balloon is a very difficult aircraft to fly. Hot air balloons there is no sense of feel in the balloon and there is a 20-30 second delay between when you turn the burners on and the when the balloon responds. So it can be quite difficult to fly a balloon. Flight hours are probably the best way to determine whether or not your pilot is a confident pilot. It takes many, many years and many hundreds of flight hours to become really good flying a hot air balloon. Because you are using the winds as your propulsion you have no choice of which way mother nature is going to go. So it takes a good amount of flight skills to be able to navigate that balloon and safely land the balloon. So if you are choosing to fly with the balloon pilot or company somewhere in the country find out how long they have been flying and more importantly find out about how may flight hours they have.
