"Hi I'm Jitin Tuli on behalf of expertvillage.com and now I'm going to tell you about the strategies involving the rook. The rook is a way powerful piece especially if you know how to make the most of it. In this first example the black rook is in the corner where it begins the game. To make the rook as square as possible try to move it to a open fight where the pawns can block the rook from moving forward. Rooks are powerful on open files because they can then control them, middle and far reaches of the board. If it is good to put one rook on a open fight it is even better to put both rooks on open files. From these squares the rooks has to control the important center of the board. In the final example we have 2 rooks but only a single open file. We start by moving 1 rook to the open file and then moving it over to make room for the other rook to move behind it. This is called doubling the rooks."
