"This little segment reminds me of the expression in bowling about trust is a must or your game is a bust. In other words, having to do with how you throw the ball into the pocket, but here we're talking about passing the spade queen with guards and we just touched on this last hand. Never do you pass low spades on court unless of course you're passing to protect the high person. You want that high person to have a little bit of freedom in their hand. You don't want to keep the queen in your hand shorthanded. For example, let's look at this spade suit, pretty weak, pretty flimsy; you're not going to keep that queen of spades in your hand. So what you want to do is pass that again depending on who we have. Now if somebody passes you the ace of spades, right, and you've passed it over here, not to the low guy, but over here and he's the high guy or he's in third place, maybe even second place, and you're trying to play to win the game, by the way when we run the Hearts tournaments, we give the bulk of the points, they're called match points, in each hand to the winner. Hearts is a game about winning. It's not about coming in second. It's not about coming in third. There's no moral victory coming in third place so the idea is to win the game. If this person is leading spades and you're forced to go up, he's not going to hit you with the queen. He likes you. Why would he blast you with the queen? If he blasts you with the queen you might have a few words with him, but don't take it too seriously. It's just about trusting the opponents and knowing who you can work with and who you can't work with. If somebody passes you the queen bare and you're high and they start blasting it out of you then you know you're not going to be able to work with them. That's the trust factor. Know thy opponents."
