" I’m Joe Marshall with expertvillage.com, and today we’re going to discuss flourishes. This is just a flip move where if flips from one hand back to the other, does a somersault. It’s a way to reveal a card that a spectator has chosen. It’s a lot nicer to add a little fancy finesse to your magic instead of just going into the pack and say 'is this your card.’ It’s kind of a boring way to show it. The way to get it to flip is you’ll just push it forward slightly so it’s the only card sticking. These three fingers on the side, your thumb, and. You’re thumb’s there; you’re first finger’s here. What you’re going to do is just push off. It’s going to rotate around these fingers. That’s the motion, and with a little bit more force, you’ll actually flip. In slow motion it’s kind of hard, so in full speed it’ll look like that. Same way to get it back. Normally, you’ll just do this. But you want it to flip one more time, so from this position, you’re going to hold it three fingers on the bottom, thumb on top. First finger, you’re just going to slightly press on it and let it peel off the thumb so that it flips over like this. This is the distance you want it to flip one time. To get it to flip one and half, you want to spread it out so that when it comes to the deck, it has an extra turn in it before you deliver it on top. In full motion, it looks like this. To reveal it, you just added an extra flip and catch it like that. This just basically takes practice of taking the proper pressure down, because if your hands are too much on it, the cards are not even going to come off the deck. If it’s too little on it, it’s just going to fly off the deck. So it’s finding the position, moving it slightly forward, pushing it off, catching it with one hand, and knowing the distance that it’s going to take to do one more half extra revolution, and you’re good to go.
