"Hi, this is Gary Zier for Expert Village. Let's take a look at the deck that's used for playing Gin Rummy, and we'll also see how the cards are dealt. We use a standard fifty-two card deck. And, the cards in each suit rank from Ace to King. Ace being the low and King being the high. There's a point value associated with each card, face cards being worth ten points, the Ace being worth one point, and the cards in between being worth the amount of points shown on the card. In this case, the two of spades would be worth two points. The six of spades would be worth six points. Gin Rummy is commonly a two player game, but can be played with three or four players as we'll see later on. The player that plays first, is selected randomly. Each player just takes a draw from the deck, and the one who has the higher card will get his choice whether he would like to deal first or not. In this case, that will be the player who drew the seven of diamonds. The turn to deal alternates between players. As a side note, the opponent always has the opportunity to shuffle the deck. But, the dealer always has the option to shuffle the deck last. Each player is dealt ten cards, and the twenty-first card gets turned over and placed in the middle. This will be the discard pile. The rest of the cards are going to be the stock pile where cards are picked by each player. At this point, it's allowed for each player to pick up his hand and start organizing it. "
