"Hi! I am Grady Johnson and I am a competition backgammon player and today I am representing expertvillage.com. Now I would like to talk a little bit about match play. Now match play is when you play for points instead of money. Now if you are not a big gambler but you like competition, match play is just for you. This is the kind of thing you are going to find when you see backgammon tournaments online or when you are playing with your friends or even in a big backgammon contest sometimes for a prize, you’ll play for points. Now in money play that is when you get the Jacobi rule we talked about, automatic doubles, beavers, none of those rules are going to apply in match play. The only things you need to remember that we looked at today that are going to be affected in match play are the doubling cube and gammons and backgammon. Now the doubling cube in tournament play, competition play and match play works as it normally should. You have one redoubling option but then you must forfeit possession of the cue. So that is pretty much how a match play does work. Remember your gammons are worth two and your backgammons are worth three times whatever is on the doubling cue. Play for points and show your skill. It is a great way to show competition and sometimes even win a few prizes. "
