Series Summary

The non-linear version of video editing using computers and video editing software is different from the type of video editing that involves using actual video tape. That sort of editing is known as linear editing. Video editing, however, is in all its forms a way of arranging visual elements on video into a more perfect assembly during production. By removing unwanted or unnecessary footage and piecing together the parts in a more thoughtful way, a film or movie – even a home movie – can become a much more enjoyable piece of entertainment. In the realm of home video and memory preservation, a carefully edited home movie can make your child's baseball game or birthday party a project that yields generous results: a home movie worth watching again and again, impressive to friends, family and neighbors!

"Hello everybody! This is Jake and I am speaking with Expert Village about taking their home videos, capturing them and putting them into a system, converting them to DVD and online. The first thing you are going need is firewire cable. Depending on the type of thing, maybe a USB cable. A lot of times you are going to look on your camcorder and databased if you record maybe on a SD card or a other type of video you are probably going to use USB. And for your recording with a mini-DVD camera, most likely you are going to be using a firewire. You look on the back of the camera and to try to find the slot. Theres two types. They have the big, the big firewire and the little one and so depends upon which one you are going to be needing or using. Since you look on the back and the in and out, that's the iLink. That's the Sony name for it. It's called iLink. The other name is Apple and it's 1394. IEEE 1394 cable. And that's what you need at first to get started on connecting your computer to your camera."
