Collecting Vinyl Records: 45 RPM Singles

"Hey Expert Village; how about forty-fives? No; for those of you who do not remember these, these are not discus throws or frisbees. Although, they do work quite well for that, actually. I've been to a few parties like that, but anyway...let's take a look at these forty-fives. This one is one of my all-time favorites; "Out of Work" by Gary "U.S" Bonds. Now when you see forty-fives like this you think "Oh geez, forty-fives! They're old! Let's buy them!" No, there are zillions of these out there at garage sales especially if they are in this condition. Which, this one...you know what this one is good for? Your circular file. You can spin it right into the trash. Here's another cute one. Connie Stevens. It's okay. I sell these in my store for a dollar a piece if they aren't all scratched-to-heck, they are good. Now let me look at some other things. What you want to look for is it's really exciting if you find sleeves like this. Now, this is an original Bobby Rydel. If you look in the record price guides... I would recommend this one, it's called Gold Mines. That's the best kind of price guides to get. You can get them at Borders or any bookstore. But this here Bobby Rydel, look at the condition of that; gorgeous. It doesn't even look like it's been played; "Will You Marry My Baby," and "Wild Wood Days." But the thing that is cool is that you have the original sleeve. Sleeves, as I said, hold a value all their own. Sometimes people just buy sleeves. This one is really in good shape. Someone wrote on it which screws it up a little bit, but this one particular sleeve is probably worth fifteen or twenty dollars for the sleeve and the record. How about this one; "Ballads of the Green Berets" by Barry Sandler. Remember the "Ballads of the Green Berets?" I'm trying to suppress it. Actually, I do remember it, but I'm trying to block it. This one here is probably (because it is historic in value)...is probably worth about fifteen dollars. But, this is like the Vietnam War type of stuff, so this is very interesting. So look for your...they call them sleeves. Look for them, and make sure they are in good condition and that gives you a leg up on the value. Nice sleeves - the older, the better."
